About Lidtone
Lidtone turns opening and closing a compatible MacBook into a small sound effect. It offers six modes based on real recordings, including a creaky wooden door, slide whistle, rubber duck, cat, cartoon and seagull. The sound responds to the lid’s movement rather than simply playing a fixed clip.
The app runs quietly with menu bar access and can say good morning on the first opening of the day. You can also add a custom opening sound up to three seconds long. Lidtone is free, requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and works with MacBooks that have a lid angle sensor.
