About AgentKnocks
AgentKnocks is a Mac menu-bar app for people who run several Claude Code or Codex sessions at once. When an agent stops for your approval, finishes a turn or fails, it knocks: one notification that names the agent, the project and the reason, like "api-server — waiting for approval to use Bash."
It works in any terminal or editor, because the agents report in themselves through their documented hooks. It never reads your prompts or code: a few facts about each event stay in a folder on your Mac, and nothing about your agents is ever sent anywhere.
What it does:
• One list for every session: Working, Needs Attention, Completed, Failed, Interrupted or Stale, in the menu bar and the Sessions window.
• Notifications that say why: permission requests, finished turns and failures, each naming the agent, the project and the reason. Repeats are filtered, with pause and quiet hours built in.
• The Island: an optional black panel around the notch (or a pill on Macs without one) showing how many agents are waiting. Hover to see every session; click a row to bring it up.
• Next waiting agent: press ⌃⌥K from any app to go to the agent that has waited longest.
• Jump to the terminal (Pro): click a notification to bring up that session's tab in Terminal, iTerm2 or Ghostty, or its terminal in VS Code or Cursor with the free companion extension.
• Codex CLI (Pro), alongside Claude Code.
• Reminders (Pro) when an agent keeps waiting, and history up to 90 days.
• Setup you can read: it shows the exact hook entries it will add to ~/.claude/settings.json or ~/.codex/hooks.json, backs the file up first, and leaves your own hooks alone. Uninstalling removes only its own entries.
• Only watches: it never approves or denies anything, and its helper takes about 5 ms per event.
Works with Claude Code and Codex CLI, in Terminal, iTerm2, Ghostty, Warp, tmux, VS Code and Cursor.
Made for developers who run several AI coding agents at once and keep losing time to a permission prompt sitting in a background tab.
Native Mac app, universal (Apple silicon and Intel), signed and notarized by Apple. Free for Claude Code; Pro is a one-time purchase.
